Dove's Moldy Little Secrets

The 20-Minute Mistake: Why Your Bathroom Fan Needs a Timer

Most homeowners flick the bathroom fan off the second they walk out the door. It feels like"common sense"—the shower is over, the steam is mostly gone, and you want to save electricity.

The Reality:   Steam is a ghost that lingers. Even after the visible fog clears, microscopic moisture particles remain trapped in the air and settled on your ceiling. If you cut the power too early, that moisture seeps into your drywall and insulation, (behind mirrors, vanities, baseboards and toilets)   breeding mold colonies.

The Dove "Dry-Out" Rule: To properly ventilate a standard bathroom, your fan needs to run for at least 20 minutes * after the water stops. This ensures the "heavy air" is fully replaced with dry air from the rest of the house

.Pro Tip - DIY:  Don't want to remember to go back and flip the switch? Install a countdown timer switch. It’s a $20 fix that could save you $$.
